The story

  1. The concept archive, with six logo concepts and twenty options for the team to vote on

    01

    Problem

Drive for 75 is a nonpartisan campaign that builds voter participation across Michigan. It needed a mark that feels civic, not partisan, and that the whole team could agree on.

  2. How the mark is built, from the map and the Detroit star to the wordmark and the motion stripes

    What I did

I drew twenty options in six directions and built a page where the team voted. The chosen idea builds the mark from Interstate 75, the highway that already links Michigan's communities, starting at Detroit.

  3. The mark in full color, on dark blue, in black and in white

    03

    Result

A final mark drawn by hand as vectors, in four versions with and without the tagline, and a brand guide with color, type, scale, motion and rules of use.

About the project

The mark is the map of Michigan in Michigan Blue, a red star for Metro Detroit, and a large red 75 with three motion stripes. Red is the last color the eye reaches, which keeps the mark civic rather than partisan.

Every file is an outlined vector, so the mark prints, embroiders and scales without any fonts. The concept archive stays online as a record of how the team chose it.
